[Class 146 (i)] Loose leaves of periodicals are secured by elastic elements engaging oppositely directed prongs or hooks at the top and bottom of the binder. The prong 22 may be formed on a one-piece member 20 located in the spine of the binder and secured to the spine or a cover strip attached or hinged to the sides of the binder. The prong may be stamped from a strip of cardboard, synthetic resin &c. or may consist of individual members threaded on a tape. The elastic elements may consists of endless bands which may be formed by elastic and inelastic lengths formed together, or of single lengths of elastic with an eyelet or loop at each end. A tool for the removal and replacement of the bands consists of a strip of metal forked at one end and turned up at the other end to form a channel section with notched sides.
