Improvements in and relating to apparatus for the solution of triangles

[Class 106 (i)] A device for solving triangles and for obtaining a solution of the so-called " ambiguous case" comprises a set of slides 1 to 4, Figs. 2 and 8, arranged in pairs and a pair of rotatable cranks r, p disposed at a convenient distance apart on a central axis x-y. Each slide is provided with a diagonal slot 5 arranged at 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis, the slots in the slides 1 and 3 being disposed at right angles to the slots in the slides 2 and 4. The slides 3 and 4 have upturned edges that are aligned with the edges of the slides 1 and 2. A scale u on the slide 1 co-operates with an index t on the edge of the slide 3. Other index marks v and w are provided on the slides 2 and 4. Pins s and q engage the slots 5 and are adjustable along the crank arms r and p respectively. The various adjustments of the pins and crank arms may be effected in any suitable manner. As shown diagrammatically in Fig. 9 the pin s is mounted on a rack sliding in the crank arm r and engaging a pinion n rotatable by a graduated knob I while the crank arm r is rotatable by a graduated knob i. The pin q and crank arm p are adjusted in a similar manner. The operation of the device in solving the triangle ABC, where the length of the sides a and b and the angle A is known, is described in the Specification.
