Mixing with marine paints or enamels or with the ingredients for such paints or enamels, an organo-metallic tin or lead salt of a carboxylic acid, a phosphoric acid, hydrocyanic acid, hydrochloric acid, or sulphuric acid. Organo-metallic salts specified are triethyl lead oleate, triethyl tin stearate, triphenyl lead chloride, triethyl tin sulphate, triphenyl lead phosphate, tributyl lead acetate, triethyl tin formate, triethyl lead benzoate, triphenyl tin linoleate, and triethyl lead cyanide. Vehicles used in these paints are alkyd resins, e.g. linseed oil-modified glyceryl phthalate, and linseed oil/chinawood oil-modified glyceryl phthalate, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate-chloride, styrene polymers and copolymers, oil varnishes containing natural resins and/or oil soluble phenol-formaldehyde resins, natural rubber, isomerized rubber, chlorinated rubber, rubber hydrochloride, synthetic rubbers, e.g. neoprene, natural resins, e.g. shellac, damar, rosin and copal, asphalts, asphaltic varnishes, cellulose esters and ethers and ester gums, e.g. Rosin ester gum and Run East India gum. Pigments specified are antimony oxide, antimony black, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, silica and lime black. Solvents are hydrocarbons, mineral spirits, coal tar naphtha, coal tar, and pine oil, while metallic soaps may be used as driers, and Asbestine as a filler.
