[Class 34(ii)] Grass or like material to be dried is fed via a hopper 7 into a tubular drying channel 4, a part of which 8 is helical and rotates about its axis in a heat insulated drum 10 supported on driving rollers 11. After progressing through the helical portion of the drying channel the material may be discharged via an air-lock 14 or in a cyclone 5. A blower 6 provides high velocity gases from a furnace 1 which carry the material through the drying channel. The speed and direction of rotation of the drum 10 and enclosed portion 8 of the drying channel may be varied to determine the drying time.
