摘要
Stable solutions of polythionic compounds, substantially free from elementary sulphur, are produced by the addition of wetting agents to the solutions, preferably adjusted to a pH of below 3. Such wetting agents comprise lower molecular weight alcohols, acetone, esters and various semi-colloidal or truly colloidal substances such as (a) sulphates of fatty alcohols of type R.SO4Na; (b) fatty acid amidoalkyl-sulphates of type R.CONH.C2H4SO4Na; (c) fatty acid ester alkyl sulphates of type R.COO.C2H4.SO4Na; (d) secondary fatty alcohol sulphates of type FORM:0632928/III/1 ; (e) secondary fatty alcohol sulphonates of the type FORM:0632928/III/2 ; (f) mixtures of (d) and (e) above; (g) alkylaryl sulphonates of type R.Ar.SO3Na; (h) sulphate esters of dibasic acids and higher alcohols of the formula FORM:0632928/III/3 ; (i) sulphonates as in (h) of type FORM:0632928/III/4 ; (j) condensation products of polyhydroxy alcohols and fatty acids, optionally in an unsaturated or sulphonated condition; (k) condensation products of amino acids or peptides and fatty acids; (1) acid esters of polybasic acids or peptides and higher alcohols. These wetting agents may be used alone or in conjunction with the N-containing compounds of Specification 632,929, or the polyvalent heavy metal salts of Specification 632,927. The examples relate to the stabilization of aqueous solutions of pentathionic acid, sodium pentathionate, potassium pentathionate, potassium tetrathionate and potassium hexathionate.ALSO:Stable solutions of polythionic acid and polythionates suitable for cosmetic and therapeutic use are produced by adding wetting agents to the solutions, which are substantially free from elementary sulphur and have preferably been adjusted to a pH of below 3.
