[Class 103 (i)] The braking system for a car suspended from bogies running on an overhead track (not shown), comprises a service brake and an emergency brake each embodying two expanding brake shoes d, dSP1/SP acting on separate wheel drums, each pair of brake shoes being expanded by a pivoted lever m, one of said levers m being operated by fluid pressure means to apply the brake and spring means r to release same and the other lever m being operated by spring means r to apply the brake and fluid-pressure means to release same. The fluid pressure means consists of pistons working in cylinders mSP2/SP connected by pipes s, t to a fluid-pressure supply under the control of an operator who may apply the brake in an emergency by releasing the pressure.
