Improvements in or relating to escapement, counting and like mechanism comprising a rotor coupled by magnetic forces to an oscillatory or reciprocatory device for synchronous movement therewith
660,584. Clocks. HORSTMANN CLIFFORD MAGNETICS, Ltd., and CLIFFORD, C. F. June 30, 1949 [July 28, 1948], No. 20145/48. Class 139 [Also in Group XXXV] An escapement mechanism operated by magnetic coupling comprises a rotor and an oscillating member one of which has a wavy form with inwardly and outwardly radial extensions, said wavy form being of such configuration that either by the non- uniformity of its reluctance or of the air gap between it and the other member, the rotor rotates continuously in one direction. As shown, a rotor 1 of magnetic material has a part 3 shaped to form an endless magnetic path of wavy form with inward and outward extensions 4, 5 respectively. A vibratory or oscillatory member 2 carries a magnet 6, the pole face of which tends to move along the wavy track 3 as the rotor 1 rotates, conversely when the magnet 6 vibrates, it tends to impart rotation to the rotor 1. Continuous rotation of the rotor 1 is achieved by (1) making the parts of the wavy track 3 where a junction is made between the wavy track and the inward or outward extension of different widths such as 7, 8, Fig. 2, or of different thicknesses, (2) making the air gap between the rotor and the magnet 6 by embossing appropriate parts of the wavy track 3. Specifications 596,216, and 660,581 are referred to.
