[Also in Group XL (c)] A variable phase shifter as used in a phase comparison radio navigation system (see Group XL (c)) comprises a single phase/three phase converter 17 and a phase-shift potentiometer 18. The converter comprises a phase-dividing network 19 and two Scott-connected transformers 20 and 21, the three-phase outputs being connected to symmetrically spaced tappings 23 on a circular potentiometer winding 24, and the phase-shifted output is taken from two diametrically-disposed wiper arms 25, the amount of phase-shift depending upon the angular position of the wipers.
