Classes 79(i), 79(ii) and 79(iii) A power unit and transmission gear for a motor vehicle consists in the combination of an assembly comprising a water cooled engine adjacent the driver's cab, a clutch, transmission gearing and housings therefor the assembly resembling a T in layout, being pivoted at its forward end to a frame cross member by means of a horizontal pivot member and a metal to rubber bonded bush component forming a bearing for the pivot member, and connected at its other end to leaf springs secured to the frame, a radiator mounted at the back of the cab and on the vehicle frame and flexible means for connecting the radiator to the engine water jacket, air being supplied to the radiator through inlets in the sides or roof of the cab so that the cooling air will be comparatively free from dust. As shown the assembly comprises the water cooled engine 4, the clutch housing 15, a gear box housing 16, a reduction gear housing 17, a differential housing 18 and rear axle housings 19, 19a. The engine drives through the gear box 6 formed of a layshaft 6a and main shaft 6b carrying a pinion 7 a gear 8 on a shaft 9. The shaft 9 drives through a second reduction gear- 'ing 10, 11, the differential 12. The assembly is mounted on the main frame 2 of the vehicle by means of half ellipti- 'cal springs 28 between the axle housings and the frame and at the forward end the assembly is pivotally mounted on a bracket 25 on the frame cross member 26 by means of the pivot member 24 and the bush component having flanged ends. Also carried by the frame is the cab 1. a fuel tank 43. the radiator 30 and a turntable for a trailer (not shown). The radiator is mounted on the cross member 26 and is connected with the engine by flexible hose pipes, the radiator and engine being covered by a hood 32. Air is drawn into the radiator by a draught inducing fan 33 driven by the engine through a grille 36 provided on the side of the cab 1.
