摘要
Oil-modified alkyd resins and compositions containing them are further modified by mixing them, if desired in solution, with 4 to 20 per cent by weight of the resin of one or more aluminium salts of compounds exhibiting keto-enol tautomerism. Aluminium salts of acetoacetic ester, acetylacetone, formyl acetone and formyl acetophenone are specified. The aluminium salts per se or in solution may be mixed with the resins during or after they have been worked up, e.g. with solvents, pigments and fillers, in the production of lacquers, adhesives, paints or plastic masses. Temperatures of 140 DEG to 180 DEG C. may be used. In examples: (1) aluminium acetoacetic ester is added to a castor oil modified glyceryl phthalate resin at 150 DEG to 160 DEG C. and diluted, after cessation of the reaction with butanol and mineral spirits, unreacted aluminium salt being subsequently removed by filtration; (2) a soya oil-modified glyceryl phthalate is similarly treated with aluminium acetylacetone.ALSO:Drying and semi-drying oils and compositions containing them are modified by mixing them, if desired in solution, with 4 to 20 per cent by weight of one or more aluminium salts of compounds exhibiting keto-enol tautomerism.
