The invention comprises O-(2,4,5-trichlorophenyl) S - (ethylxanthoyl) dithiophosphoric chloride of formula FORM:0738250/IV (b)/1 The compound is prepared by reacting an alkali metal ethylxanthate, such as sodium ethylxanthate, with O-(2,4,5-trichlorophenyl) thiophosphoric dichloride of formula FORM:0738250/IV (b)/2 in an inert organic solvent such as benzene or chloroform, at a temperature of 35 DEG to 80 DEG C. A tertiary amine such as triethylamine may be used as a reaction catalyst. In dusts it is used in concentrations of 0.1 to 10 per cent of weight of dust, and in liquid suspensions in concentrations of 0.1 to 3 pounds per 100 U.S. gallons of spray mixture.
