[Also in Group XXIV] In a centrifugal separator driven by worm and wheel gearing 2, 8, the worm 2 is supported in the machine frame by bearings 3, 4, and is flexibly connected to the shaft 1 of the separator. The upper end of the shaft is supported by a resilient bearing (not shown) and the lower end of the shaft is mounted in a bearing 6, the arrangement permitting limited oscillation of the shaft about the centre of the bearing 6. The flexible connection between the worm and the shaft comprises projections on a sleeve 7 fixed to the shaft and co-operating projections on the worm. The shaft has a bore 13 and carries an impeller 11 so that material from an inlet 12 may be fed to the interior of the separator bowl which is mounted on the upper end of the shaft.
