Improvements relating to pre-combustion chamber diesel engines

A precombustion chamber 14 is connected to the main combustion chamber 16 by an open through-flow passage 15, having no obstruction therein, axially aligned with the injection nozzle 17 from which the fuel is sprayed at an acute angle on to the wall of the passage 15. The passage 15 may be cylindrical or slightly conical and its length is preferably a multiple of the axial depth of the chamber 14. The fuel is preferably sprayed as a conical jet and is removed from the wall of the passage 15 by the air flowing into chamber 14, the ignition in which blows the remainder of the fuel into the main chamber 16. A glass plug 18 is provided in the chamber 14.
