Projecting sideways from the body of a mineral-mining machine are two loop frames 28, 29 of a configuration such as shown. In the forward surfaces of each frame is a guideway in which circulates an endless, pick-carrying chain that, in the buttock of the face, forms a kerf of such a size that the associated frame may enter. The frames are rigidly mounted one on the body of the machine and the other on a vertically adjustable turret 37, 38 and are driven by sprockets 24, 25. The frame 28 precedes the frame 29 when the machine moves along on a face conveyer during the cutting operation.
