Class 137 [Also in Group XII] Dust and bacteria are removed from air by directing a jet of steam into the air and allowing or causing the mixture to cool, the steam condensing on the individual dust, particles and bacteria so that they are precipitated, the heat of the steam also serving to destroy the bacteria. Contaminated .air in the vicinity of railway tracks, in abattoirs, streets, drains, mines, &c., is cleansed in this way. The invention is also applied to the air conditioning of factories, &c., the incoming air entering a cylindrical chamber 1 wherein it is mixed with steam from nozzles, 4. The air-steam mixture passes at low velocity into a cooling chamber 2 having external heat radiating fins 7, the steam condensing in this chamber to cause the precipitation of the dust, &c.
