[Also in Group XIII] A material used as a vapour barrier covering fibrous insulation on a wall separating a warm space and the atmosphere (see Group XIII) comprises in one form (Fig. 6) a sheet of neoprene, chlorinated rubber, polythene, polyvinyl chloride or the like, to each surface of which is applied a layer 9, 10 of asbestos paper or felt, glass cloth, fabric, or blotting paper, or a sprayed layer of fibrous asbestos. Stitches of blue asbestos yarn pass through all the layers or only through the central layers, to form wicks which conduct condensed water from the insulation to the warm space, to be evaporated there. In another form (Fig. 7) a thermoplastic sheet 7 and two asbestos sheets 9, 10, one on each side, are passed between two heated rollers 18, 19 one of which is spiked at 20 to drive fibres from one asbestos sheet through the thermoplastic sheet. In a modification, a chlorinated rubber sheet to which adhesive is applied by rollers has asbestos fibre dusted and rolled on both faces, and is then passed between two unheated rollers, one of which is spiked.
