816,833. Tyre moulding presses. McNEIL MACHINE & ENGINEERING CO. May 17, 1956 [Aug. 2, 1955], No. 15375/56. Class 87(2). Tyres are removed from a press by two arms, one on either side of the press, arranged to support and lift the tyre, with means to move one arm above the other causing the tyre to tilt and slide out of the press. In the form shown one arm 64, pivotted at 70, is connected by a link 55 to a crank 44 which is pivoted at 46 on a stanchion 40 and is moved by a piston 50 and cylinder 60 which are pivotally mounted at 77 on a second crank 72 which is pivoted at 85 on the stanchion 40. The crank 44 is connected to the other arm 15, which is pivoted at 12 on a stanchion 11, by links 36, 27 and a bell crank 34. The paths of movement of the tyre lifting ends of both arms are shown by chain dotted lines. In operation, the press opens and the tyre is elevated by the diaphragm 5. Pressure admitted to the top of the cylinder 60 forces the piston 50 to move down, and so causes the crank 44 to move about the pivot 46 and thus the arms 64, 15 to move from their idle position to an horizontal position, partially stripping the tyre from the diaphragm. The arms then pause sufficiently to allow the diaphragm to be fully stripped from the tyre by the press, further movement of the piston 50 and crank 44 being prevented by a stop 57. The supply of further pressure to the cylinder 60 then causes the latter to move upwardly, pivoting the crank assembly 72 about 85 and so causing the arm 64 to continue its movement, tilting the tyre until it slides by gravity out of the press onto a roller 21, carried by the arm 15, and then to a conveyer for removal. The arms 15, 64 are L-shaped. The arm 64 is rotatably mounted in a carrier 62 so that it can be turned to give access to the lower mould section for changing. Pairs of arms 15, 64 may be pivoted at 12 and 70 for lifting types from two mould members.
