In an apparatus for the hot filling of carbonated beverages into containers, in which the liquid is maintained at a pressure above the carbon dioxide saturation pressure associated with the filling temperature, the gas space in the vessel, after filling the liquid, is connected with the outer atmosphere until the vessel is drawn off a filling element of the filler whereupon the filling element and also a centering tulip for the containers are sprayed with hot water. A container is placed on the stand 24 which is raised together with the centering tulip 3 to make a seal around the outlet 5 ; this operates the control 14 to allow carbon dioxide to enter the bottle via the gas conduit 18 until internal pressure together with spring 8 causes the liquid valve 7 to open to fill the bottle, the liquid being guided onto the sides of the bottle by member 20. When the bottle has been filled the control 14 operates to close the gear and liquid valves and a relief valve 22 operates to release pressure in the bottle and is kept open until the bottle is withdrawn whereupon the filler, the tulip and the gas conduit 18 are sprayed with hot water from pipes 52, 53, 54 and 55. Liquid remaining in the gas conduit is blown out into a collecting container and the liquid reservoir is mounted to be rotatable.
