[Also in Group XXXIII] A pack 6, Fig. 1, containing an inflatable raft, life-belt or body harness &c. is ejected into the sea from carrier 37 which is allowed through releasable means (not shown) to swing about a pivot 8 secured to a ship, a pier &c. Outward swing of the carrier is limited by abutment of a stop 32 on the carrier against a fixed member 18. In a modified apparatus a pack 6, Fig. 2, is ejected from a carrier 33 having end walls 35 and back-rest 34, swinging movement again being limited by stops 32, 18. The carrier 33 or extension 37a may have skids, runners or rollers &c. for assisting the outward run of the pack. Spring or other means may be provided for initiating pack ejection or carrier tilting and means may be arranged for arresting ejection until required after the carrier has moved to the ejection position. The apparatus may be remotely controlled and where the pack comprises an inflatable raft requiring a line for raft release and/or inflation, or otherwise where a line is required between raft and apparatus, the line may be attached to the apparatus or its support. A plurality of packs may be supported by the carriers.
