A protector for a heel comprising a lower or body portion and a projection extending therefrom, having at least one small passage formed in the body portion and extending in a direction along the continuation of the peripheral face of the projection into the body. The projection 2 is placed in a cavity in the heel with the face 6 of the body abutting the base of the heel. Nails 4 are driven through the passages 3 which nails wedge the projection in the cavity by slightly incising the faces of the cavity and projection. As the passages 3 terminate short of the face 6 of the protector, a thickness of the body material remains to be pierced by the nails which pierced material holds the nails firmly in the protector.
