914,007. Coin-testing. CARI G.m.b.H. & CO. April 28, 1961 [May 12, 1960], No. 15504/61. Class 27. A coin-tester, particularly for vending machines, comprises two or more inclined tracks m, mSP1/SP, a weight-testing balance k, kSP1/SP at the beginning of each track and thickness-testing projections z and a hole-detecting feeler fe which co-operate to test the contour of the coins. Inserted coins pass down a funnel c, the larger coins being tested for diameter between elements g, f, and fall to the balances k, kSP1/SP. Sufficiently small coins pass between the bentover ends of the balance k to the lower balance kSP1/SP but coins of roughly correct larger diameter are retained on the upper balance and, if of correct weight, they tilt through the required angle to deliver the coin to the track m. The counterweight for the balance may be an adjustable nut l or may be a weight carried by a hairpin clip displaceable in two bores in the balance. The tracks m, mSP1/SP are adjustable vertically in slots mSP11/SP and have a slot n, nSP1/SP for rejecting toothin coins to a reject channel k 3 . The thicknesstesting projections are sip screws z projecting into the appropriate track and a pin feSP1/SP on each feeler fe projects between the first four of each set of screws. A coin which is inadequately embossed and is in consequence excessively thin is first tilted clockwise by the pin feSP1/SP and then counterclockwise into engagement with the last pair of screws z and is retained by them. A coin of too-small diameter falls through an aperture i or iSP1/SP, assisted by the feeler. Accepted coins pass over webs o, oSP1/SP to their appropriate delivery channels. Most of the parts of the tester are made of plastic. Coin-clearing.-A plate b forming one side of the coin tracks and carrying the balances k, kSP1/SP is provided with a spring-loaded hinge r so that it can be pivoted by an operating member b 1 to release trapped coins.
