Chromomycin mixtures rich in chromomycin A group antibiotics are produced by reducing at temperatures of 10 DEG C. to 40 DEG C. and at a pH of 3 to 7.5 chromomycin F and/or O groups (or mixtures containing chromomycin F and/or O groups) obtained by the cultivation of Streptomyces griseus ATCC 13273 in accordance with Specification 898,793. Specified reducing agents are hydrogen sulphide, sulphites (including hydrosulphites and bisulphites) a metal (such as zinc or tin) plus an acid, e.g. formic acid, an activated metal such as activated aluminium and water, or hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst such as Raney-Ni, Pd-black and Pt-black. Solvents are 1 to 4 C alcohols, fatty acids, esters, aliphatic ketones with up to 5 C atoms, or mixtures thereof.
