Pesticidal wettable powder and dust compositions

Decachloro - octahydro - 1,3,4 - metheno-2H-cyclobuta[c,d]-pentalen-2-one is prepared by hydrolysing the reaction product of hexachlorocyclopentadiene with sulphur trioxide or a halosulphonic acid e.g. in an aqueous alkaline drowning medium.ALSO:A pesticidal composition in the form of a powder or dust comprises as toxic ingredient, decachlorooctahydro-1,3,4-metheno-2H-cyclobuta[c,d] pentalen-2-one (see Group IV (b)) in the form of a hydrate containing 9.91 to 12.81% by weight of water of hydration together with a powder or dust carrier material. The composition may contain wetting and/or dispersing agents, e.g. sodium and calcium ligno sulphonates, alkyl naphthalene sodium sulphonates, the oleic acid ester of sodium isethionate or esters of polyoxyethylene sorbitol. Specified solid carriers are magnesium and aluminium silicates, e.g. talc, kaolin or attapulgite; carbonates, e.g. dolomite or chalk, diatomaceous earth, fuller's earth, gypsum or sulphur. The compositions preferably contain 25-75% toxic ingredient and 2-6% wetting and/or dispersing agent. The compositions may also contain insecticides, miticides or fungicides.
