A railway rail base-plate has two parallel raised portions 2, below which are formed passages 5 for rail clips and between which is formed a seat 3 for a flange footed rail, and a plurality of projecting portions 6 which are integral with or fixed to the lower face of the base-plate. The portions 6 can be round, square or other non-circular cross-section. In modifications the projections are formed by splitting the plate at its ends and turning portions downwards. Alternatively the projections may be formed by rivets driven into holes in the plate. In a further modification the plate is split in the rail seat portion and a part or parts of such plate turned downwardly. The plate is secured to the top of a sleeper 4, and the projections 6 are held in holes 7 in the sleeper 4, by a suitable adhesive. Specification 861,473 is referred to.
