A control system for moving the work-table of a machine in response to a pattern comprises a first motor C controlling the movement of the table in one direction and a second motor G controlling the movement of the table in another direction at right angles to the first direction. The motor C is controlled by leakage past a valve member 44 while the motor G is controlled by leakage past a valve 12. The valve member 44 co-operates with seats on the inner end of bushes 26, 28. The bushes have opposite screw threads 30, 32 and rods 38 extend between the bushes to prevent relative rotation. A knurled knob is connected to the bush 28 whereby rotation of the knob moves to the bushes towards or away from each other. The valve member 44 is carried by a rod 46 which is adjustably connected to a rod 62. The rod 62 carries a sleeve 68 which serves as an abutment for a member 72 connected to the valve 12. Tracing of the contour varies the bleed of the valves 12, 44 to control the speed of movement of the motors C, G.
