In a method of making a multi-coloured twisted wire, a composite metal strip composed of two or more differently coloured layers is formed, the strip is rolled to a dimension suitable for drawing, the rolled strip is drawn into wire form and finally twisted about its own axis. The wire may be formed from carat gold having a different composition in each layer or gold may be bonded to one or both sides of a base metal layer such as copper. To produce a plurality of similar wires, a composite blank may be cut into strips before drawing.
