Improvements relating to processes for the production of multi-coloured patterned sponge rubber

In a process for making multi-coloured patterned sponge rubber, pieces of individually coloured raw rubber compositions containing blowing agents and treated with a material, e.g. talcum, for preventing them from sticking together, are arranged as a loose mass of uniform height in an open container and heated so that the pieces combine to form a continuous mass which is expanded by the gas released by the blowing agents and is then vulcanized. The pieces may be arranged indiscriminately in the container to form an indeterminate pattern or may be arranged to form a desired pattern. The process may be employed for manufacturing sponge rubber mats.
