1,013,050. Counters. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. Sept. 3, 1964 [Oct. 21, 1963], No. 41450/63. Headings G4D and G4T. A machine for issuing trading stamps has two rolls 16, 70 of five- and one-stamp width, respectively. The value of the stamps to be issued is set up by keys 108, 106, Fig. 3, corresponding to 5/- and 6d. multiples. The selected key 108 partially discharges capacitor 180 to set binary cascade counter 111-114 through a diode matrix 184 according to the 5/- multiple. Solenoid 48, Figs. 2 and 4, energizes to release a clamp 52, 53 on the five-stamp strip 16 and simultaneously to lift roller 20 so that the strip is fed by drive roller 30. As each line of perforations passes a light 62 a photo-multiplier 64 reverses a flip-flop 248. Alternate reversals energize a magnet 65 to advance a tens counter 66 and pulses terminal 162 to reduce the count in cascade counter 111-114 by one. When the cascade counter reaches zero solenoid 48 releases to stop the feed and capacitor 180 recharges so that a 6d. multiple key 106 may be operated if required. The operation in this case uses light 95 and omits flip-flop 248 so that magnet 100 responds to every line of perforations to advance units counter 101. The machine stops if either of lamps 62, 95 fails.
