In a flameproof thermostat assembly a capillary tube, connected to a switch within a flameproof housing, is taken through the wall of the housing by means of a flameproof bush provided with special means to prevent its accidental removal. The inlet for a capillary tube 6, Fig. 1 (not shown), into a flameproof housing, comprising a body portion 1 and cover 2 and containing a thermostatic switch 3, comprises a threaded bush 7 sealed in a gas-tight manner to the tube 6, the bush having its inner end larger than the bore 8 into which it fits to render the inlet flameproof and to make its removal from the outside impossible. In other embodiments, the bush may be a slide fit with a lock-nut at one end; it may be brazed to the tube 6 and fit in a groove in the body 1 of the housing where it is held in place by a grub screw, or the bore may be formed by registering grooves in the body and cover.
