Mordant dyeing of high molecular polyolefin material

The invention provides a process for mordant dyeing of polyolefins especially polypropylene in which aqueous emulsions or dispersions of dyes of the general formulae I and II are used. (I) FORM:1044349/D1-D2/1 II FORM:1044349/D1-D2/2 in which R1 and R2 are linear or branched alkyl groups of 1-20 carbon atoms, x is any group capable of forming metal complexes the benzine ring A may be benzine or naphthalene and any of the nuclei may have substituents e.g. halogen hydroxyl, alkyl, alkoxyl, aryl aralkyl or alkylamino groups. The metals used as mordants are, nickel, cobalt, chromium, manganese, vanadium, iron copper and aluminium. The polyolefin may be treated as follows, (a) mordant followed by dyestuffs. (b) mordant and dye together (c) dyestuff followed by mordant (d) dyed with dye/metal complex (e) polyolefin containing metal, is dyed with a dye as above.
