A device for forming a cavity (3) in a locking rib (2) in each of a series of cement tiles comprises moulds 4 having a central upstanding flange 6 with a locking-rib-forming gap 8 therein, a central upper groove 7 in the flange 6 locating a wire 9 anchored at one end to the device and terminating at the other end 10 in cement poured into the moulds, the wire bridging the gap 8. On moving on a conveyer (not shown) away from the wire anchorage, thereby withdrawing the wire and forming the cavity 3, the moulds move to a vibrating table (not shown) where the cement is solidified, and also profiled by rollers (not shown). The cement is then sectioned at 5 to form each individual tile.
