A puppet is provided with flexible operating cords 10 attached to the feet 9 forward of the point of attachment of the foot to the leg 5 and extend upwardly therefrom for the purpose of producing a more natural walking effect. The operating cords pass through eyelets 14 to the usual cruciform control member 11. A stiff wire member is connected between member 11 and a pelvis member 4 on which the legs 5 are pivoted.
