In a reclining chair, one, 8, of two seat supporting links 8, 18, is formed as a control link for a foot-rest mounting member 13 and rotates, about stationary pivot 7 to extend member 13, as the seat and back unit 30, 31 is moved from the upright position (Fig. 1, not shown) to the semireclined position. In the stowed position, the foot rest is inverted beneath seat 30 and it is held back, by link 14, until pivot 12 is raised sufficiently to allow it to be swung without its tip striking the floor. Link 35 retains flap 34 over the front of the frame, in the upright position of the chair. The chair is arranged to be in a stable state in any position of adjustment between the semi- and fullyreclined (Fig. 3, not shown), in which member 6 rises about pivot 5 to the extent of links 22, 23. Friction joint 33 provides additional control of this movement. A simplified form eliminates intermediate mounting member 6 and the fully-reclined position. A form in which the seat and back rest are pivoted to one another is referred to.
