A Process for Substituting Ammonium for Potassuim in the By-Products of Sugar Refining, the Distillation of Sugar Fermentation Products, and the Yeast Industry

Potassium sulphate crystals are produced by treating by-products of the sugar industry, of the fermentation of sugar or of the yeast industry by adding thereto either ammonium sulphate, or sulphuric acid and gaseous or aqueous ammonia, agitating and cooling and separating the crystals. The process may be carried out in a centrifuge. An example is given in which sulphuric acid and gaseous ammonia are added to distillers' wash from yeast fermentation.
