[Also in Division B3] A hard metal tip 9 is secured by forging within a blind bore 5 in the end of a tool such as a coal-cutter pick. The tip is preferably of tungsten carbide and may be of circular or square cross-section with a conical or pyramidal point 16. The steel nose 1 of the pick has a bore of the same diameter as a shoulder 12 on the tip which preferably has longitudinal grooves 11; the grooves 11 may, however, be omitted, Fig. 3 (not shown). The forging is performed hot.
