Dishwashing apparatus comprises a cabinet 1 open at the bottom, means for retaining the cabinet 1 vertically above a sink 4, a dish-holding basket 7 adapted to be enclosed by the cabinet 1, and a mechanism, such as an electrically operated pulley device 15 or manually operated gearing, for selectively moving the basket 7 into and out of the cabinet 1 and into and out of the sink 4. A rotary brush driven by an electric motor 13 may be provided for cleaning the dishes.
