A wringer comprises at least two rollers 1,2 one of which is made up of several elastic compressed air vessels having smooth cylindrical surfaces. The other roller 2 is rigid and perforated and may comprise a vacuum container 4 connected to a vacuum pump. Instead of being perforated, roller 2 may be covered with a wire-mesh screen. Roller 1 is made from the body 34 of automobile tyres with a mass of rubber 35 vulcanised thereon and carried on wheels 8 mounted on a shaft 9 carried in bearings 10, 11 and having metal side plates 12. The wet washing is carried by conveyor from the washing machine to the wringer.
