An annular sawblade assembly for a machine for slicing brittle material and method of manufacturing a sawblade for use in said assembly

A tool for slicing brittle material comprises an annular saw blade 6, Fig. 1, which has a cutting edge 7 at its inner periphery and is secured near its outer periphery to a support 1, and a gland 8 which has a projecting portion 9 contacting the blade along a circle concentric to the cutting edge and is adjustably secured to the support by bolts 10 arranged, when tightened, to cause the gland to exert a pressure on the blade at right angles to the plane of the blade. The outer periphery of the saw blade is secured to the support by a member 3 held by bolts 5 on the support. The gland 8 is mounted by bolts 10 on the member and is adjusted by the bolts so that the projection 9 applies radial tension to the saw blade and so that the plane of the blade is at right angles to the axis of rotation of the support. In another embodiment, the support, 1, Fig. 2, is detachably mounted on a holder 12 by screws 11 which also permit adjutment of the blade 6 so that its axis is coincident with that of the holder. The blade may be made by securing the material of the blade in the support, adjusting the bolts 10 to stress the blade and cutting the circular hole in the blade. The hole may then be chamferred and the blade provided with a cutting edge of diamond grains.
