When the train starts the reference motor current is compared with the resulting acceleration using differentiating circuits. A programmed acceleration is then produced by the automatic correction of the motor current and a vehicle loading factor computed. This loading factor is stored and used for the next braking sequence, to vary the braking force w.r.t. loading, and is constantly revised every time the train re-starts. The system provides smooth, linear acceleration and braking for automatic electric trains, especially of a light construction where the payload can become an appreciable part of the total vehicle load.
