摘要
Irradiation of a reaction mixture, with coherent infra-red radiation produces various reactive organic species, depending on wavelength. Reactions which may be, brought about with this technique are: decomposition or ethyl chloride or iodide; oxidation, chlorination, or polymerisation of an alkene, such as oct-1-ene; alkylation of cyclic aromatics such as phenothiazine; production of a long-chain succinimide by reaction of a polyolefine, such as polyisobutylene, with maleic anhydride then with a nitrogenous base; production of a nitrogenous base for previous reaction by reaction of dicyandiamide with a primary alkylene polyamine such as -NH (C)A -NH2, where A =2,3, or 4. Alkylation of phenothiazine with octene produces 3,7-dioctyl phenothizine, which is used as an antioxidant in lubricants; long-chain succinimides are used as dispersants in lubricant compositions.
