A feeder for bacon, pork-fat or meat to be delivered to the knife unit 20 of a cutting machine, comprises two adjacent chambers, one of which 13 is formed as a vertical channel for the passage of material to be cut whilst the other 26 contains the driving mechanism, and a hopper 12 overlying said chambers and communicating through a discharge aperture 12SP1/SP with a chamber 13. In the chamber 13 are four dragging rollers 17, provided with axially extending radial blades 17a adapted to protrude to grip the material and then to retract gradually. The retraction &c. of the blades may be controlled by cam means.
