1,194,625. Coating with metals. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. May 28, 1968 [June 19, 1967], No.25421/68. Headings C7A and C7F. A film containing boron Ni, Fe, and Mo is electrolessly deposited on a substrate of e.g. glass, plastics, copper or beryillium-copper using an alkaline solution comprising a boron containing reducing agent having a boron-nitrogen bond, e.g. borones or borazoles, a complexing agent and a solvent, e.g. water, alcohol, dimethyl sulphoxide or tetrahydrofusan. The metal salts may be chlorides, sulphates, nitrates, acetates or sulphamates. The solution may be made alkaline by adding ammonia, triethanolamine, glycine or metal hydroxides. These may be used as complexing agents or sodium potassium tartrate or sodium citrate or hydrozy acetate may be used. Hypophosphites or hydrazines may be used as additional reducing agents. The substrate may be dipped in stannous chloride followed by palladium chloride solutions prior to deposition. The deposited film is composed of (% by weight):- Mo 1 to 4, Fe 17 to 27, B 0À5 to 1À0, balance Ni.
