A target detecting and locating system for targets equipped with a jamming transmitter comprises an active radar system combined with a passive monitoring system. The passive monitoring system detects a target and determines its angular co-ordinates, this angular co-ordinate data being supplied to the active radar system as a control signal to cause its scanning mode to be modified and thereby facilitate the determination of the distance coordinate of the target by the active radar system. As shown in Fig. 2 the energy received by n horns 10 connected to passive receivers 11 is fed to a receiver 12, the latter deciding when a jamming target is present by the level of the signal. If a target is detected a logic circuit 13 controls switch 16, 17 and acts similarly on the active radar receiver 14 so as to modify its detection criterion as a function of scanning time. It also acts on the transmitter 15 to modify its scanning mode.
