A container for transporting liquefied gases at atmospheric pressure is supported in a ship by beams between the bottom 5 of the container and the inner surface 9 of the bottom of the ship, the bottom of the container being braced to the ship's bottom by ropes 13 passing alternately between protrusions 12 on the container bottom and protrusions on the ship's bottom. The protrusions 12 may be carried by flanges 7, 8 extending from the appropriate surfaces 5, 9 opposite reinforcing flanges 10, 11. The container bottom 5 may have a layer of insulation 6. The protrusions 12 may have heads 14 to retain the rope 13. A similar bracing may also be provided for the sides of the containers. The rope 13 may be of plastics, possibly with a metallic core.
