1303298 Thiophosphorus acid esters and intermediates therefor BAYER AG 6 Aug 1970 [16 Aug 1969] 37988/70 Headings C2C and C2P The invention comprises organophosphorus esters of the general formula wherein R 1 is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl or C 1 -C 4 alkoxy radical either of which may be substituted by halogen, R 2 is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl or haloalkyl group and X is O or S. They are obtained by reacting a salt with a compound wherein M is a monovalent metal equivalent, e.g. Na. or K, or an ammonium group and Hal is Cl or Br. The reaction is preferably carried out in an organic solvent, preferably acetonitrile. The products have insecticidal, acaricidal and, in some cases, rodenticidal properties and can be used as active ingredients in conventional solid or liquid pesticidal compositions. The starting compounds III are obtained by reacting propylene sulphide with concentrated HBr to form BrCH 2 .CH(CH 3 )SH and then reacting the latter with formaldehyde and a hydrogen halide, preferably HCl, and detailed examples are given for preparing and its conversion to by reaction with paraformaldehyde (suspended in benzene) and concentrated HC1.
