Vinyl chloride polymers are light and heat stabilized by the addition of a neutral metal salt of a citric acid monoester of a C1-C18 alkanol, C2-C10 alkenol or alkynol or a C3-C7 cycloalkanol, the metal being sodium, potassium, barium, calcium, magnesium, cadmium, zinc, tin or lead; in a preferred form the citrate ester-salt is used in combination with zinc stearate. In the examples, the stabilizers are added to PVC or vinylchloride-vinyl acetate copolymer mixed with dioctyl phthalate and stearic acid or epoxidized soybean oil.ALSO:Metal salts of mono-alkyl, -alkenyl, -alkynyl or - cycloalkyl esters of citric acid are prepared by conventional methods. Esters prepared contain isopropyl, octyl, stearyl, methyl, ethyl, allyl, octenyl, decyl, propenyl, decenyl, cyclopropyl, hexenyl, cyclohexyl, ethynyl, cycloheptyl, heptadecyl and butynyl groups and salts contain Cu, Ba, Cd, Pb, Na, K, Mg, Zn and Sn cations.
