Collagen-containing material is shaped by mechanical means during or after subjection, in an aqueous medium, to a heat treatment, to a chemical or enzymatic treatment effecting a partial hydrolysis, to an electrical treatment in an A.C. field, or to any combination of these treatments, the treatment or combination of treatments being such as substantially to increase the difference between the yield strength and the breaking strength of the material. The treatment or combination of treatments is preferably continued until this difference is at or near a maximum. Specification 429,040 is referred to.
