The powdered chemicals (I) are coated with a continuous film of macromolecular substances by subjecting them to a h/f electrical discharge in a reduced pressure vessel. Pref. the powdered is first impregnated with a liquid polymerisable liquid monomer such as vinyl, acrylic, styrene or allylic monomers before subjecting the paste obtained to a silent luminescent discharge. (I) are pref. Li hydride or a double hydride of Li and Al, of particle size 1 mu to several mm.
