Steroid and steroid glycoside nitrates with - positive inotropic activitye neuroleptic antihistaminic activity

Heart stimulant steroids and steroid glycosides of the cardenolide and butadienolide type are dispersed in excess acetic ahydride and treated with absolute HNO3 or its salts, in the presence or CH2Cl2, CHCl3, acetone, CH3CN or nitrobenzene, preferably at -40 to +25 degrees C., to obtain the nitrates. The products are valuable heart stimulants with a positive inotropic activity, and are superior to the starting materials.
