Ceramic tiles 10 are assembled in edge to edge relationship on a conveyor 11, T-section Strips 13 of thermoplastic bonding material are applied passed under a heater 15 where the strips soften and become bonded to the tiles, passed under non adhesive pivotally mounted rollers 16 to press down the softened strip and finally passed beneath a cooling hood 19. The bonding material may be the combination of a high (greater than 40,000) molecular weight thermoplastic polymer (e.g. polyethylene) in combination with a medium (3,000 to 40,000) molecular weight thermoplastic resin with fillers such as ,barytes titanium dioxide and carbon black.
